WHY LOW-TOX LIVING?
It all begins with our daily choices
Far too many consumers are using harmful products every day, and have no idea.
We assume our favorite shampoos, body washes, lotions, cosmetics, and perfumes must be safe since they are sold in stores, but unfortunately, in the USA that is not necessarily true. Regulations on these types of personal care products haven’t been updated since 1938, and many known harmful substances are still legally allowed.
So how can we know if the personal care products we use every day are safe?
And more importantly, why should we care?
Aside from personal care products, what we use to clean our homes and wash our clothes eventually come into contact with our skin too, where harmful endocrine disrupting chemicals can be quickly absorbed into the bloodstream.
How can we know if the ingredients in those products are safe and not potentially harmful?
Body Burden is defined as “the amount of toxic chemicals and pollutants that have settled in a human body over the course of a lifetime”. When harmful substances accumulate in the tissues of your body, this can cause significant negative impacts to your health over time. This is why one of the primary goals of low-toxin and toxin-free living is to reduce body burden.
Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), according to US National Institute of Health, “are natural or human-made chemicals that may mimic, block, or interfere with the body’s hormones, which are part of the endocrine system. These chemicals are associated with a wide array of health issues.” Many EDCs are known to mimic estrogen in the body, while others are known block our natural hormones from doing their job.
It’s up to YOU to determine what to allow and what to avoid.
